The original name of the firm was Othman Hashim Chen & Co. which was established in October 1983 by Othman Hashim (as he was then) and Peter Chen in Kuala Lumpur. Before venturing into legal practice, Dato’ Othman Hashim had previously been a lecturer in ITM School of Law. The firm then concentrated on non-litigation work, focusing on conveyancing, banking and corporate advisory work.

The year 1988 saw a significant change in the setup of the firm when Ting Kong Hock, then with 7 years’ experience in the insurance industry, was admitted as a partner. The firm began to gain a foothold in civil litigation work, especially in the insurance sector. A year later in early 1989, Abd Rahman Mahmood was invited to the partnership, bringing along with him considerable experience in the oil and gas industry, having served Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) as a legal and secretarial officer for 7 years. The foundations were thus laid down for a structured development of the firm.

In February 1990, Peter Chen left the firm and the name of the firm was changed to its present name Othman Hashim & Co. The 1990’s witnessed the firm entering a new phase in its history and an unprecedented expansion followed, both in terms of size, areas of Practice and turnover.

From its inception until 1999, the firm’s head office was located at various places: firstly at Plaza Bukit Bintang, Jalan Bukit Bintang, then at Bangunan Tabung Haji, Jalan Tun Razak and at Bangunan Yayasan Selangor, Jalan Bukit Bintang. By mid-September 1999, the rapid expansion of the head office meant that the limited office space at Bangunan Yayasan Selangor was no longer adequate, so it was relocated to bigger premises at Wangsa Maju.

The firm has also expanded beyond the city-limits of Kuala Lumpur. In 1992 the firm established its first branch outside Kuala Lumpur, in Penang. Another branch was established in the historical city of Melaka in late 1993. In June 2000 the firm established a branch in Sepang to explore the potential of neighbouring Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. The fourth branch of the firm was set up in Menara Zurich (previously known as Menara MAA) in July 2001, mainly to cater to clients requiring legal services within the vicinity of the commercial centre of Kuala Lumpur. In order to optimize our firm’s operations and to be able to serve our clients better as well as in a more holistic manner, we relocated our office to 6th Floor, Wisma Kah Motor, No. 566, Batu 3 ½, Jalan Ipoh, 51200 Kuala Lumpur. The firm’s fifth branch in Johor Bahru was established in September 2001. The firm’s branch in Melaka has been re-established in January 2012 while the firm’s sixth and seventh branches in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu was established in February and August 2012 respectively.

本律师楼最初命名为澳士曼哈钦及陈律师楼，并于1983年10月由澳士曼哈钦先生（当时的称呼）和陈吉良先生在吉隆坡建立。 在拿督澳士曼哈钦先生涉足法律事务前，他曾在ITM 法律系担任讲师。本律师楼当时则专注于非诉讼、房地产、银行和商业咨询工作。

1988年本律师楼迈入新的里程碑，因当时拥有7年保险业经验的陈光福先生被接纳为合伙人。从此本律师楼开始立足于民事诉讼的工作，特别是在保险业。一年后的1989年初，曾在国家石油公司担任7年法律及公司秘书一职的阿都拉曼玛慕先生，凭其拥有石油和天然气行业丰富的经验，被邀请成为合作伙伴之一。这样的基础从而奠定了本律师楼结构化的发展。

1990年2月，陈吉良先生离开了本律师楼，本律师楼因此便改名为澳士曼哈钦律师楼。九十年代本律师楼迈入了另一个新的历史里程碑，尾随而来的便是一个史无前例的拓展，无论是在规模上，法律执业领域或业务额上都取得到了辉煌的成绩。

从一开始直到1999年，本律师楼的总部位于多个不同的区域。一开始在Plaza Bukit Bintang，而后在Bangunan Tabung Haji ，继而在Bangunan Yayasan Selangor。因为迅速且持续性的扩充意味着位于Bangunan Yayasan Selangor有限的办公室空间已不足够负荷本律师楼的需求。因此，本律师楼便迁移到旺沙玛朱现址。

本律师楼也在吉隆坡城市以外开设分行，并于1992年，在槟城开设了吉隆坡以外的第一家分行。另一分行则是于1993年底开设在古城马六甲。2000年6月本律师楼于雪邦成立了另一分行以发掘毗邻的布城和赛城的潜力。2001年7月，本律师楼在Menara Zurich (前身为Menara MAA) 成立了第四家分行，主要是为了提供法律服务于吉隆坡商业区附近的客户群。为了提升本律师楼的业务，并能为我们的客户提供优良和更全面的服务，我们决定搬迁到6^th Floor, Wisma Kah Motor, No. 566, Batu 3 ½, Jalan Ipoh, 51200 Kuala Lumpur。本律师楼的第五家分行于2001年9月在柔佛新山成立。 位于马六甲的第二家分行于2012年1月被重组，而第六和第七家分行也相继于2012年2月及2012年8月分别在吉兰丹及登嘉楼设立。
